There used to be fireplaces in many rooms--including bedrooms--when fireplaces had a purpose. Who is going to light four fires in four fireplaces in a house today? It would throw the thermostats completely out of whack, and chances are people would be either too hot, near the fireplaces, or too cold elsewhere, as the thermostats might have shut off the central heating.

It's a romantic idea. However, as I write, we have dozens of candles lit, waiting for dinner guests. I suppose we're all romantics in our fashion. Fireplaces and candlelight are still appealing to us romantics, eh? :-)
