And never, never use the central chimney as support for framing--unless you design a colossal footing to compensate for differential settlement. Otherwise your floors will all sink towards the fireplace. Even if you don't frame into the masonry, you should anticipate differential settlement, and this may mean a very large footing for the massive (if it's Wrightian) chunk of masonry.
