In most low rise steel building applications that are visible to the casual observer the bottom chord of the truss is not connected in any way to the columns or wall. Why were they connected in the WTC? Is this common in skyscraper applications? If they don't need to be connected then what difference would this have made in the WTC? Should it have been able to stand even if the bottom chord were not connected?
