Sorry for a late response to your question, but I just became aware of this discussion board. You should read Jack Quinan's book on the Larkin Building. The previous response is basically accurate (but Quinan can cite sources)--the Larkin Co. went through a lot of changes during the years of the Great Depression and went out of existence. As was typical in that situation, by the 1940's and 1950's, some of their old buildings were re-used for other purposes, but not all, and since more people used cars rather than public transport, it was not unusual to tear down some older structures to make way for a parking lot.
