The alternative to a homoginized, corporate, global architecture, where every aspiring community apes New York City, is respect for regional identity. Instead of looking at the glossy magazines and adopting journalists' views of trendy architectural models, we need to look around us at our authentic regional traditions.

The character and identity of a region (outside of cities that increasingly all look much alike) is enhanced by the local vernacular architecture. Barns are good, honest buildings--often elegant in their spare economy of means. This project is evidence of how the designer can embrace tradition, reinterpreting it in a thoughtful, weel-wrought building.
