the problem is not the semi-detached "villa", but that bastardisation of the Georgian design: the little terraced house. Long rows of "dwellings". When that most famous of Frenchmen, cartoon-character Asterix, visits Britain in one of the stories, his friend Obelix gazes at the rows of identical British houses and asks, reasonably, "but how do they know where they live ?"
