"...General Motors... headquarters... we are going to have retail throughour here. Picture cafe tables and restaurants cranking on bith sides. People will come down on Friday night. We wasnt it to be fun and noisy."
"The vision is ambitious... the waterfront area is currently an industrial wasteland of crumbling buildings... "
"GM hopes its effort at the Ren-Cen (Renaissance Center)... will serve as a catalyst for broader redevelopment along the Detroit River..."
"GM's plans ... follow similar moves across the nation... to reclaim old downtown real estate..."
The basic theme here is to make this a more people friendly environment, rather than a hostile concrete wasteland. The emphasis is on creating an environment where people will want to go an stay for a while.
Shouln't we be doing this everywhere?
