Architecture is not dead just sleeping (especially in the eyes of the public who do generally know a good building when they see one but rarely do they see such a thing). Architecture is not about fitting into a style as such. Style is fashion and especially in the last century very transitory. Good architects (architecture?) tends to go beyond a certain style. Style is used more as a point of focus to build around rather than an end in itself. The development of an architectural language is more sustaining goal. It is only mediocre designers who need to rely on an all encompassing style, school or faction to belong to to justify their work. So architecture may be hard to find but it is not dead.

The bigger problem is that there is so little scope for architecture in building because very few people who are interested in the art and the science of building have any input. Then even of those few who are interested only a handful can create the real thing. It is easy to see why a general consenus think modern buildings are bad (or insignificant ) - they are. That's why it is important to highlight and notice buildings that do succeed and distinguish these as architecture as oppossed to the rest.

By the way is architecure about a single building, a steet, or a city?
