In earlier post someone suggested the fair idea. It was suggested that such a World's Fair be held on the site of the World Trade Center. Using this site would have the advantage of creating a transitory phase for the site. A portion (or all) of it could be made in the form of a temporary (one year) exhibit as a memorial to all those who were affected by the Sept. 11 attacks, and could include memorials to all those who have suffered in other similar tragedies world wide. This temporary exhibit could be constructed in such a way (modular perhaps) that it could be transported to other cities and other nations after the end of the World's Peace Fair. The exhibits could also showcase new technolgies or simply promote human understanding of diverse cultures.

I wrote to my Senators and Representative in the U.S. Congress. I received one polite reply that I should contact the private organization that controls this site. The others replied that they appreciated the feedback from a constituent, but gave no indication that they would pursue the idea. I do not believe that this effort should be a government sponsored effort, but I thought that perhaps they would mention it to others in the private sector. I would advise all of you to contact your government officials who have contacts with the private sector to encourage support of this effort, not only in the USA but world-wide.

This kind of effort was made in the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and the buildings on Ellis Island which served as an immigrant screening facility in the early 1900's in the USA.

I am pleased to see that you students are making an effort to pursue this. This grass roots effort is exactly what is needed. Please continue your efforts.

As a design exercise, what would you create as a suitable space or building for such a project? Why not create a series of proposals as part of a presentation package?

(Besides, this would give all you students out there something to do in your spare time...since you have too much time on your hands! LOL)
