Britain has wind turbine fever --- they intend to cover much of the countryside with 'intimidating' windmills some 328 feet in diameter. In order to trickle energy into the National grid. It's terrible. TXU Energi is behind this (with a little governmental backing) This comes at a time when "the UK market is oversupplied and electricity prices are falling...other generators, inc TXU, have mothballed plant in response to falling prices"
(Daily news summary, 16.5.02)
My main concern is the alteration to such areas, particularly local to me in Cumbria.
One proposal set to go to the Scottish council is plans for a small sand bank situated in the Solway Firth midway between the Scottish coast and Cumbrian (6 miles) to be covered with 60 of these ludicrous things, (this is an area of about 1.5 square miles.) because they would be in the sea they would obviously have to be lit at night. What a pleasent veiw, great for tourism....come look at the windmills in the sea.
The sand bank would have to be concreted over in order to secure the wind turbines.
This is just one example of this wave of green tinged Britian. There are many more. All quite discretely put forward.
My question is does anyone know how much energy these turbines actually generate ?
I know plenty of these things are located around the world...but are they actually beneficial and should they be crammed on such a small group of islands (Britain)?
OH yes and can anyone suggest ways of opposing such as this ? I've already wrote to local councilors many of whom agree with me but hint at higher authority, beyond public control.
Is the british Government really that corrupt...I wonder ?
What's in it for them ? I'm baffled.
