Looking on the net for land to build a house on I had to try to
figure how big an acre is and looks like. I seemed to remember that
an acre was 208 x 208' but didn't know what I could compare it to.
I live in an old city, Phila, Pa and tried to calc how big a block
was and I believe that a square block is 4 acres. I am wondering if
this is or Was a standard size for streets laid out in a grid ?

Looks like land may be hard to find where I think I would want so
did some calcs on the minimum size that I am thinking of to fence in
for what I want and it looks like 3/4 acre is the minimum though more
would be better but I don't think I want to fence too much land but I
want a horse or 2 and thinking about grazing.

I came across the size of an acre as being 208.7 x 208.7'. Trying to
visualize an acre by city blocks I figured out how many blocks equaled
a mile. I used to hear that a mile was 10 city blocks and 8 country
ones but it looks like a mile is 13 city blocks. Do I have it right ?
