Thanks, Will.

It is always interesting to learn the history of something that I
have an interest or am involved in. Trying to remember things I
saw as a kid or find out what was here can be interesting. There are
still a few, Mud Scrapers on side walks, next to steps of houses
that were built in the early 1900's and places to tie up horses, like
iron posts or rings in the curbs.

Efreth's Alley, a one car wide street with 3 story houses with one
room on each floor is probably the oldest street. A few yrs ago they
replaced the paving of a street around a hospital and kept it the
origional way with wood squares on end as paving. Said to quiet horse
hoofs back when they were common. Also said to Smell from their
excretions. I remember some horse and wagons but seeing films of
bumper to bumper ones in NYC the amounts of manure must have been
extreme. I believe that is why the trash collection dept here is
called, the sanitation dept.
