While the technique applied to simulate rustic redwood siding with pre-cast concrete is interesting and must have been successful, I am rather shocked to learn that the Native Americans of the region were totally satisfied and happy with the result.
If they are so, I must think that their spiritual depth of the nature as their living partner, is only skin deep. However well simulated, concrete is concrete, and not wood which is a living material even after they were milled. There is a traditional method of simulated wood handrails by concrete, used widely in Japanese public park. It requires virtually no maintenance on one hand, it is always questioned of its authenticity and the effect of "fake" matrials to the minds of children, on the other.
I hope those people who are thought only remaining close friends of the earth, do not lose their most valued spiritual quality just because the authentic material of redwood is no longer available and simulated concrete provides such convenience and "looks" of what they claim the spirit of nature.
