Regarding the pedestrian realm, it's always been surprising that there has been so little recognition of varying climatic conditions.

Excellent point. And in the Pacific Northwest, while our climate is certainly lovely, it is more obviously so this time of year, than during the October through May rainy season.

Which just serves to emphasize for me the shrewd strategies of the compartmentalized artificial urbanistic pedestrian experiences provided in Southern California by Universal Studios and now Disney, too. Their precious outdoor malls have ideal climatic conditions just about the whole year 'round.

Which also emphasizes the irony of so many people there spending so much time in their cars...
