Donald Duncan is on the right track. In this century one needs to abstract away from the pure form of "natural systems" and include an analysis of the specific raw material transport mechanisms which allow these systems to build themselves. The scale - strength - material differences can be corrective.

there can be no doubt that this school is on to something that will be fleshed out in the near future. No pun intended.
