Quite right...:-) But....

Let's not forget that it can take some time to have an adult tree! That it is important for many designers to be able to trace the origin of the timber they will use in a construction (even chairs). Some countries have a regrowth policy... Other don't!

Exotic timber mostly come from Africa or South Asia, because of plantation strategy some timber cost nearly the double... But then the cheapest is "harvested" (chopped down) in the middle of a forest falling from it's own height (Azobe can be 35meters high) and be weakened and sometimes rendered useless because of internal cracks...

Wood remains a "luxury" in most buildings... Unless it is a fast growth species (useless for structure)...
