Some good ideas here--(while at the same time we have all these students looking for thesis topics!)

GE at one time produced a one-piece kitchen unit (about 9 or ten feet long) that combined stainless steel sink and countertop, electric range, with metal cabinets and diswasher (as I recall). Learning that GE was discontinuing the line, a few of us architects bought up the few untits remaining locally, stowing them in a barn and using them on house projects for several years. This was a great product. I know of some units still in use, after 40 years or so. I can't imagine why the item was discontinued, since it was such a good product--and still is.
