Like many California cities, San Luis Obispo is looking for ways to expand its housing supply but still maintain its uniqueness and quality of life. Reading this article made me wonder if perhaps the courtyard model described wasn't the ideal paradigm for SLOtown. We're blessed with only two of the old style 1920s type court bungalow apartments, but both have an elegance and attractiveness that fits a variety of neighborhoods and that tenants enjoy.

I would like to hear more about this subject and the author's or architects' findings. Would welcome a chance of putting together a presentation or workshop (possibly through the AIA or APA) on this subject SLO/Santa Barbara counties some time this Fall. It might also merit a presentation to our Planning Commission and/or City Council on the urban design/housing ethic of the Courtyard bungalow. Thanks for the excellent article!
