I'd like to know how to calculate the sq. ft. and then the total acres of a plot of land with different measurements on all 4 sides.

An architect gave me an answer, but he got it by using a program he had on his computer, and could not tell me how it was worked out.
I'd like to know HOW it was calculated.

Our property has been reassessed, and they show a higher total acres than the architect had calculated.
