does this odious hobby of Wren's make his architectural work any less important ? no, don't believe that it does. He came from a time when such behaviour was viewed as having an enquiring mind. Repulsive character - lovely buildings.

Today it is not quite the same. Why ? Because institutionalised barbarity using public funds to give it respectability mean that the compartmentalising of standards cannot be put down to personal foibles.

Not very long ago there was a call for architectural services for Porton Down - as I mentioned at the time, this could either be seen as the world's longest running biological weapons experimentation establishment with an horrific record of experimenting on humans, and with tens of thousands of claims against it - or something which would look good in the brochure.
