“In the life of a city, as in the life of a man, the most essential qualities are often indiscernible and hidden in impenetrable darkness.”
The lines above describe the very nature of the city in its totality. The city as we see it and the way we conceive it are not the only features that make it a living organism. Most of the time the lungs of the city through which it breathes are never seen or are kept out of site. This disagreeable character of a city gives it a superficial treatment where every thing is neat and tidy and the messy functions which keeps it working are hidden .we as callous users or residents of the city never bother to look beyond what we see, we never question ourselves as to how cities work, buildings come up and the most important how do they sustain in the urban environment which is ever changing
People understand their environment through its overall form, the character and arrangement of streets, the character of buildings around them, the spaces in and around the building and the way it works, when a built form does not reflect the reality of the situation urban schizophrenia occurs. This aspect of the city life is what will be kept in mind while studying the backsides of buildings in the course of the dissertation. The organization of an environment depends on people’s notion of what is good and bad and the expectation of what is a city. The main aim of the study will focus on these points. The very expectation of the user from a building needs to be studied in order to understand the loopholes and the root of the problem.
these lines will form the basis of my study.and i would like your help in framing the objectives and scope of the study.
