Years ago, Mayor Koch was approached by a lady in a gentrifying lower East Side neighborhood: " Please, Mr Mayor" She pleaded "Make it the way it was"...
Many people wish everything could go back to the "way it was" before 9/11; but we can't.
To retore the towers (which appeals to me also), would require rebuilding them with visible strengthening: Huge external diagonal braces, clearly defined bands at intervals connoting extra-strong floors, and a thousand other details to redress the public's fears...
So in the end, we would not really have the original towers , but new structures symbolizing protectivism , protectionism and insularity: precisely the opposite themes, in fact, of those the original design was supposed to convey....
Why don't you post your ideas on the Scrapbook here? They will certainly receive attention from a high level of professional architects...
