At what latitude on the globe (assuming it spherical), would one find a circle which, taking its radius along the surface to the pole, gives the closest approximation of pi=3 ?
This question occasionally comes to me when, for example, I notice that the inhabitants of Britain were at one time sufficiently obsessed with Pi to try avoiding it, by constructing "flattened" circular buildings, whose circumference approximated 3.
