Renzo Piano has been mentioned regularly in these threads, and I recall discussing Carlos Scarpa (the name has an 'a' on the end of it) and Aldo Rossi, was well as others on your list--as well as some not on your list, such as Micheluzzi.

Many of the architects you mention are no longer practicing, and it may be natural that current work seems more debatable. The media here in the US is more attuned to work that is visible here, so that's much of what we see published here in the US.

I'm not Italian either, but admire much Italian architecture (from all periods). I agree that Scarpa was a fine architect.
