i share your question and i think any geologist or scientist that deals with soil mechanics knows that the rivers DO change its course with respect to time.
(UR)the oldest urbanization in the world in summerian civilization in ancient Iraq ,was once a lively port on the Euphrates at 2000 B.C,and the shore of the Arabian gulf was much nearer at these times,on the other hand the current situation in todays topography is totally different,i guess a fixed delta system created by rivers with respect to time is almost a myth!
