the "isolationist" views of, and to an extent within, America are not something that I really have a problem with. Being parochial or however one describes it - if Americans want to live their lives as they wish, I certainly have not the slightest argument with that.

there is however a more recent contradiction (and questions relating to the IRA are hopefully purely historic now). I have mentioned to a number of people who know America far better than I do that from my experience Americans are very correctly spoken and, in many ways, very moral or even moralistic in their outlook (yes, there are loud-mouthed kids, but there are everywhere).

I just cannot balance this view of Americans which I have personally experienced with the startling language, deceit and conduct coming from the US administration today. I find it offensive and inflammatory - how on earth do Americans hear it ?
