Paul: when you speak of space , I suspect you are concerned with more than just spatial definition. You may be thinking of the treatment of space; the shaping of it, and conditioning of it through embellishments and detail . Modernist space is lacking this layer of specificity which is really the forte of traditional design. Modernist space is democratic to the point of in many cases being valueless. The concept can be applied to modern culture as well (as illustrated by Allan(?)Bloom in "The Closing of the American Mind".)
