Fees have been driven up by more requirements to documents since architecture became an "business".

Perhaps savings are also eaten up by cost of the equipment, especially for small firms. I cannot prove it either way, for although I did a lot of hand drafting, most of my experience in the trade has been on the computer now. A study would be good. Perhaps AIA should do one or maybe they have.
