Actually war is only common among humans. Most predators will struggle over terrritory. At times there is bloodshed, even death or ostrasizing of an individual, but generally there is just a parting of the ways. Humans turn on each other en masse with a vengeance and attack non-combatants; whereas a couple of males in other mammalian species will beat each other up and that's all.

But humans have another side animals cannot have, and there's the hope.
