A Civ.E degree as a basis for a an M.Arch degree later would be a very interesting route. There have been some very good architects with engineering backgrounds. Look at the work of Santiago Calatrava!
Also Auguste Perret, from nearly 100 years ago. I wouldn't get discouraged. what you will need to succeed is a way to distinguish yourself from everyone else, and this may be a good way.
