I am trying to write an essay on Skyscraper and the role of them. I read in a book that the first skyscraper, were Tower at Belfry and a tower which was classed as a skyscraper called hte Ardmore Tower? Is this true? Can skyscrapers be like turrets or towers. I also read the description of a skyscraper as a tall building which occupies commercial floor space, but can they be something else.

Also, am I right in thinking that most skyscraper are built nowadays with a issue of sustainability or low energy as a concern? For example, Commerzbank by Fosters and the BRE by Fosters being built right now.

My tutor does not seem to think this is so. I have read-up on this.

thank you

vince
