Message - tectonics

i've been reading into Kennth Framptons explination of tectonics in architecture. i've read no clear idea of what "tectonic" and "non-tectonic" actually are! Frampton seems to simply skirt the issue without giving his real thoughts on it. perhaps its just all over my head. i'm a second year studant in Scotland and would appriciate a clear idea on what Tectonics is really about!
