Not a stupid question at all.

THe design of the clothing of a designer, is itself also a matter relevant to the designs of the designer.

I think this is because architects and designers ( like certain other professionals such as brain surgeons) are the modern versions of "priests".

They perform (or imply that they can perform) jobs which are on the one hand, necessary for the populace, yet extremely arcane. They are always, thus, at risk of being thought to be charlatans.

To show that they are "priests" and not tempted or motivated by earthly distractions, they must wear a clothing which conceals all of the body except the head.

The high necked, black garment is a secular version of ecclesiastical
