Books I received recently and for Christmas:

Icons of Architecture: The 20th Century by Thiel-Siling, Sabine Prestel - Munich, London, New York

This book begins with Antonio Gaudi's Sagrada Familia and ends with Frank Gehry's Guggenheim, Bibao.

Architecture in North America Since 1960 by Tzonis, Alexander; LeFaivre, Liane; and Diamond, Richard (Copyright 1995) Thames and Hudson
On the cover is Frank Gehry's Frederick R. Weismman Art Museum, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

Frank LLoyd Wright: A Visual Encyclopedia by Thompson, Iain (Copyright 1999 - 2002 edition) PRC Publishing, London
This is an alphabetical listing of much of Wright people and places.

New Organic Architecture: The Breaking Wave by Pearson, David (Copyright 2001) University of California Press, Berkeley and Los Angeles
This book has an interesting section showing photographs from nature and phtographs from architecture that are similar. Examples: A spider web compared to the domed roof of the Palazzetto dello Sport, Rome, by Pier Luigi Nervi; the scales of a pangolin (a mammal similar to an American anteater) compared to the curving slate roof tiles of the Catholic Church at Paks, Hungary by Imre Makovecz; multiple soap bubbles compared to the "Biomes at the Eden Project, Cornwall, England, by Nicolas Grimshaw" and other photos of "organic" shaped houses.

New Australian Style by Michell, George and Gollings, John (Copyright 1999) Chronicle Books, San Fransisco
This book is divided into four sections: city, suburb, beach, bush
Every page has a photo of a house or apartment or a detail. It includes examples of uses of wood, steel, glass, concrete, and galvanized steel.
