Even if contractors (and designers) can be persuaded of the superior strength and economics of manufacture, there will still be a perod during which the means to manufacture such structures will necessarily be more expensive. This is true of any new technology, when in its infancy. Once it has become more widespread, though, the cost savings you mention will begin to be seen.
