I am a muslim architecture student from Iran. I think that if you put beside the religous reasons for building churches, mosques, etc(which is actually impossible), you can count on the role of these places in gathering people together and making them feel closer to each other. This is because the common subject is something which has a strong root inside people and not something which changes in different occasions. When people feel closer they would face group work with more interest.
