To Whom It May Concern,
Back in the early eighties when I worked for Citibanks'Foreign Exchange Dept.at the Pan Am Worldport,I would sometimes walk across to the old United Finair terminal on the other side and pass the 3 houses of worship and look to my right and stop and stare at the
beautiful structure now standing alone and desolate.Recently flying in from Seattle(my present home,I work for British Airways)I was stunned by the appearance of the terminal, considering how much money has been pumped by the Port into other projects. This is nothing short of the disastrous controversy surrounding the old Pennsylvania Railroad Station back in the early sixies. We cannot allow a historically relevant structure to go the way of other classic buildings, not only in New York, but other cities across America. Many towns and cities are razing old buildings and replacing them with pseudo"old looking buildings"(Houston is a prime offender)It makes no sense as it would be less expensive to rehab the old structure than to start from scratch. We need to band together and make a lot of noise.Richard Ramirez
