Message - Cad Protocols for professionals

I once read about "protocols" meant to be followed while working on CAD so that there is a Global CAD uniformity while working on projects.

The standards to be followed while allocating the layers etc... for example, the standard color code, layer number, the line type, dimension style for a particular floor plan. Again another set of standards may be used to represent the section/ elevetion drawings and things like that...

When I read the article, The concept was in a state of infancy... however unfortunately, I have not been able to keep track of the development in this direction. I wish someone would educate me in this regard??
