You're right, of course, but to some less enlightened administrators, what you and I would consider a "decent, pleasing environment" may be seen as something entirely different. Not everyone favors modernism, and though you and I do, as architects and designers, we bear the responsibility for showing the merits of modernism, especially in a world in which it has been received, so far, with mixed feelings. I happen to love curvilinear surfaces, myself. The more the better. To some, though, anything that deviates from right-angles-and-corners paradigm that we've been saddled with for centuries is jarringly confrontational because it defies their tastes.
