If Britain can afford a "war" against people who are not threatening it, but cannot maintain one of its most important industrial age structures, then the culture is rusting faster than the bridge.

In Australia, there is to be a new 1420 kilometre rail line from Alice Springs to Darwin. This will connect up with the existing 830 kilometre line from Alice to Tarcoola (near Adelaide), giving a transcontinental link.

First sod cut 2001. Completion by end of 2003. The project is ahead of schedule.
