Meiers' proposal immediately evokes historic memories of the original WTC towers with their square plans and their plain-ness. There are two towers next to three towers. The three towers are connected like people linking arms to join humanity together. The two towers joined together can be read as you and me joining together and meeting the rest of humanity at this historic site. Most people would agree that joining together is a much better course of action that tearing apart human relationships. The total of five buildings was a design requirement.

Whether you view these towers as beautiful or ugly, you cannot miss the fact that they are a distinctive form that would have dominated the skyline in a manner consistent with the way the original Twin Towers did.
