I heard Jim Cutler tell a story about one of his house clients who had purchased a beautiful piece of forested land in coastal Washington State and wanted him to design their home. After seeing the site Cutler agreed to do this. Meanwhile, the clients hired a contractor to work on estimating and permitting while Cutler was finishing up the drawings. When the architect and contractor went back to the site to stake out the foundations, it had been completely cleared! All those beautiful firs were now at some mill somewhere!
It was just "business as usual" for contractor and client.
