It would be safe to say...BOTH! Yes, all the factors of physical & psychological come into play when designing a "good" space. There are a lot of things to consider & volumes have been written on it. I.E., the importance of colors & space. A well designed & planned space should & ought to have a profound impact upon us both physically & psychologically - much like how the Grand Central Station in NY City has on people. So, in answer to your question..both of ocurse.

For further elaboration just do some research on the subject & get some good books too.
