Once again I must ask you to know my ignorance.
Tree's are for a great deal made into sheet materials, but sheet materials don't ask old trees or natural recources difficult to replace. Acturly a lot of develobment gone into producing bio mass based sheet materials and these offer a lot ; Chip wood sheets don't need to be made from old but is acturly a better buisness producing from all sorts of bio materials -------- but the sheet industrie havn't yet reached the new millinium and think sheet materials to be worked into boxy constructions fiddeling stiff sheets , instead of investing in technologies that make any round shape from plane cutting with simple 3D technology like 3D-Honeycomb ( there it was ,sorry ) .
Anyway from my idear these things connect ; a lame industrie that with both Ply aswell as sheet steel, rather invest in the next pyramide, to lose the investment, than investing in new technologies that bring progress and jobs ; then it's better to pirat cultural values and while this bring a fast profit, forget about the future.
