I think architecture has moved forward, but not US architecture. Its stuck in a timewarp and is miles behind Europe in terms of construction technology and aesthetics. The US gave us postmodernism, maybe thats something worth remembering the next time you walk through a sickly coloured shopping centre with Ionic columns and cream and teal walls. Think on.
