LOL! There are a lot of "grumpy" old timers in the profession, to be sure. I think it depends on their experiencees and the degree that "normalcy" plays in their life plan. A lot of what he says rings true, but much of it has to do with attitude. And there is also a lot of potentially good stuff too. If you are in the position to actually design, you have the experience of actually seeing your creation being built. If you have managed to gain your clients confidence and are allowed some freedom , this can be an exhilarating experience. Also, an interet in construction really helps....and contractors are becoming more and more "team" oriented, and less adversarial. The money isn't great, and if you have a pack of dependents, things can get gloomy at times. But if you can bring value to your employer, you will have a place.
