"Architecture is the art of prediction"

not only is it the art of prediction, it cannot be anything else. If an architect designs a house to be exactly as it was in the 1950's and says that that is what people want, it is just a much a prediction as an architect who decides that a house should not look like any house seen before.

Even the restoration of an old building is a prediction, the nature of the restoration, the way that the building will be viewed and used still require prediction.

It is an art for the future - and cannot be anything else.
