Shade is interesting issue. As an architect I was dissapointed by the new charecter of of modern architecture in my region (Arabian Gulf Countries or GCC Countries).Cities become as I call "Sun cities" Just as if sunlight and its warmth , are invigorating as in cold climates.Most buildings are exposed to direct sun in addition to be extroverted. However in my region it is the coolness of shade that allows buildings and outdor areas to perform better, in addition to be itroverted .As aresult I started to call for Architecture of shade in many articles and researches. The site of Friends of The Environment Centre ,in Qatar for example, published couple of my articles under the series: Environmental visions for better future architecture.One article is of the title : importance of shade for the gulf region , as displayed in the link :
