I am contemplating a career change into architecture. I have so many issues deciding. First and foremost, I went to school and got a BS in Electrical Engineering, 7 years ago. This was in India. Came to this country, have been doing IT work since then. I love designing buildings and I also like doing interiors , but I just dont want to be a decorator. How can I do both? I think I would have an advantage starting as an architect and maybe get some design courses later? Any suggestions? What schools should I look at in Chicago that are recognized by the better architecture firms in Chicago or US? Is the course at the Art Institute well recognized? They do require a portfolio, and my experience has been mostly decorating my own home. Any ideas would be appreciated. Feel free to email me at
BTW - I read the post of an architecture student who said that the career sucked for the first several years and the pay is never quite good. Is this true for the entire life of an architect?
