I has been known for a century that steel framed buildings are inhearently unsafe. This is because steel melts with heat. The "fireproof" methods used even today are totally inadequate. Whant can we do?
First, use reimforced concrete as used in the Ptronious Towers. Much more testing needs to be done with this technique, some of which can be done with conputer simulations.
Second, another material needs to be used to permanently fireproof steel columns and beams. I have no idea what it would be, but perhaps someone can get a research grant fron NASA since they don't seem to know. It may be a sprayed on silicon, ceremic, or a carbon fiber. But the research needs to be done. It is long overdue.
